A canção "Over The Rainbow", da película "O Feiticeiro de Oz / The Wizard of Oz", encabeça a lista dos cem melhores temas de películas, segundo decidiu o American Film Institut (AFI, instituto americano do cinema).
Em segundo lugar ficou "As Time Goes By", do filme "Casablanca", seguida de "Singin'in the Rain", do musical "Serenata à Chuva / Singin'in the Rain".
As cem canções foram seleccionadas por 1.500 actores, realizadores, argumentistas e críticos duma lista de 400, segundo se deu a conhecer na noite de terça-feira em Los Angeles.
A voz de Judy Garland tornou famosa "Over The Rainbow" em todo o mundo em 1939.
Na quarta posição ficou "Moon River", de "Boneca de Luxo / Breakfast at Tiffany's", seguida de "White Christmas", de "Quinze Dias de Prazer / Holiday Inn", "Mrs. Robinson", de autoria de Simon & Garfunkel, incluído na banda sonora do filme "A Primeira Noite / The Graduate", "When You Wish Upon a Star", de "Pinóquio / Pinocchio", "The Way We Were", do filme "O Nosso Amor de Ontem / The Way We Were", "Stayin'Alive", de "Febre de Sábado à Noite / Saturday Night Fever", e "The Sound of Music", de "Música no Coração / The Sound of Music".
Entre as canções mais novas, "All That Jazz", da película "Chicago" (2002), ficou-se pela 98ª posição, enquanto que o tema principal do êxito de bilheteira "Titanic", "My Heart Will Go On", interpretado por Celine Dion, ficou em décimo quarto lugar.
Na lista também se encontram a canção "Goldfinger", do filme de James Bond com o mesmo título, e o tema de culto "Born To Be Wild", da película "Easy Rider".
