Shirley Knight, actriz norte-americana. Shirley Enola Knight nasceu a 5 de Julho de 1937, em Goessel, no Kansas. Estudou na Universidade da Califórnia. Formada na Pasadena Playhouse, estreou-se no cinema em 1959, sob a direcção de James Clavell, em "Five Gates to Hell", mas só se começou a notar nela no filme "Escuro no Cimo das Escadas / The Dark at the Top of the Stairs" (1960), de Delbert Mann, numa actuação que lhe valeu a sua primeira nomeação ao Oscar de Melhor Actriz Secundária. Em 1962, voltou a ser nomeada com a sua interpretação do papel de Heavenly Finley em "Corações na Penumbra / Sweet Bird of Youth", de Richard Brooks, onde contracenava com Paul Newman. Em meados dos anos sessenta dedica-se ao teatro e tem importantes êxitos na Broadway. Entre os seus principais papeis no grande ecrã destaca ainda no drama racial "Dutchman", de Anthony Harvey, produzido pelo seu primeiro marido, Gene Persson (1967), e "The Rain People", de Francis Ford Coppola (1969). As suas aparições em "The Group", de Sidney Lumet (1966) e "Petúlia / Petulia", de Richard Lester (1968) são memoráveis, mas o mesmo não se pode dizer da sua reduzida participação em "Código Juggernaut / Juggernaut" (R. Lester, 1974). A maior parte da sua filmografia é constituída de filmes feitos exclusivamente para televisão.
